As San Jose real estate experts, we recommend Willow Glen for its walkable downtown and historic homes, Almaden Valley for top-rated schools and hiking access, Rose Garden for Victorian architecture near downtown, Cambrian for strong schools, and Berryessa for BART access and excellent dining options.
San Jose is served by VTA light rail with stations throughout the city, Caltrain connecting to San Francisco, and the Berryessa BART station (opened 2020) providing rapid transit to the East Bay and San Francisco. Major highways include 101, 280, 680, and 880.
Currently, Berryessa in North San Jose has BART access via the Berryessa/North San Jose station, which opened in 2020. The BART extension to downtown San Jose (Diridon Station) is under construction and expected to open in the coming years.
From our experience helping clients find walkable neighborhoods, Willow Glen offers the best walkability with Lincoln Avenue shops and restaurants, followed by Rose Garden with its proximity to downtown and historic tree-lined streets. Downtown San Jose itself is also highly walkable with access to San Pedro Square and the SoFA district.
As local experts, we find Almaden Valley offers the best hiking access with Almaden Quicksilver County Park featuring over 30 miles of trails. Blossom Valley is near Martial Cottle Park, and the east foothills neighborhoods like Evergreen have access to Alum Rock Park, one of California oldest municipal parks.
